Case of attack on police; SFI activist arrested, murder attempt case registered against 31

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An SFI activist, who attacked the police during the Secretariat march staged yesterday, has been arrested. The Cantonment Police arrested the activist identified as Manesh. He is accused of attacking cantonment assistant commissioner. The police have registered three cases in connection with yesterday’s protest. A murder attempt case has been registered against 31 people. Reports say that the SFI will hold another march to the police headquarters today.

SFI activists had staged a protest the other day over Vande Mataram controversy. Several activists, including women, were injured during the police action against the march. The Secretariat march was organized in protest against this incident. The march later turned violent. Tensions escalated after the police stopped the protesters using barricades. Activists who arrived shouting slogans tried to topple the barricades. As the situation turned into a scuffle between the police and protesters, the police resorted to a lathi charge.
