CJP's protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has begun its protest in Mumbai, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A large protest is being held at Shivaji Park, with the agitation beginning on Gandhi Jayanti with a call to “save democracy”.

The CJP is demanding that Gyanesh Kumar resign. It has also called for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to be stopped and the voter list published in January to be restored. The party has also demanded a comprehensive and independent probe into the matter.

Although Mumbai Police had denied permission for the protest at Shivaji Park, hundreds of people led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and his supporters have been reaching the protest venue. Heavy police security has been deployed at Dadar railway station and around Shivaji Park to prevent any untoward incidents.

Dipke said the protests would be expanded to Delhi's Jantar Mantar and states including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Goa in the coming days if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign. The CJP has also said it will continue its agitation across the country.
