WAYANAD: The Wayanad District Collector has ordered the suspension of quarry operations across the district in view of the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall. The order also directs that tourist facilities, including homestays located in disaster-prone and vulnerable areas, should suspend operations until further notice.

According to the order, all adventure tourism activities, trekking programmes, and the use of heavy machinery for earth excavation or soil removal must also be stopped until further orders. The district administration has further instructed that people living in vulnerable areas facing the risk of floods and landslides should be shifted to safer locations as a precaution.

The order states that the relocation process should be carried out jointly by the District Panchayat authorities and the Revenue Department in coordination with the District Education Officer. It also says that the Joint Director of the Local Self-Government Department will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of these measures.
