Examination Amendment Bill introduced in Lok Sabha; Opposition demands Union Minister Amit Shah's statement

NEW DELHI: The Public Examination Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha despite opposition protests. The bill was introduced by Minister Jitendra Singh; meanwhile, the opposition protested, demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the police violence against students during the Parliament march. Despite Speaker Om Birla's ban, the protest continued under the leadership of MP KC Venugopal.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm due to opposition ruckus. Parliament proceedings were resumed after being adjourned till 12 pm. The Speaker strongly criticised the opposition for disrupting the proceedings. The Speaker demanded that etiquette be maintained in the House, which he said was the responsibility of every member.

The bill was introduced to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices) Act, 2024. It is reported that the law will include a provision for the establishment of fast-track courts to quickly consider cases related to question paper leaks.

The fast-track courts will be set up to dispose of cases and announce sentences within three months. The amendment is also expected to increase the prison sentence and fine for those involved in question paper leaks. It is reported that those found guilty of such offences will face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a maximum fine of Rs 10 crore.
