THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former corporation councillor I.P. Binu has surrendered before the police in connection with the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials following the raid conducted at the residence of Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan. Visuals showing Binu throwing eggs at the vehicle carrying police officers had surfaced earlier.

Police had carried out a search at Binu’s house on Thursday night. I.P. Binu and others had reportedly gone into hiding the previous night, following which police carried out a widespread search across the city. Binu surrendered while police were continuing their investigation to trace the accused, including former councillors involved in the case. He is also the secretary of the Palayam local committee.

Binu himself announced through Facebook that he was surrendering before the Museum Police. 'I am appearing before the police in the case accusing me of attacking the vehicle of ED officials the other day. I was not arrested; I am surrendering on my own,' Binu wrote on Facebook.

Earlier, the Vanchiyoor court had remanded five accused in the case for 14 days. Serious charges, including attempted murder, have been filed against them. A total of 16 people have been arrested in the case so far. Attukal Unni and Palayam Santhosh, who are also accused in the case, remain absconding.
