Heavy rain likely, yellow alert in various districts, sea waves likely to intensify

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will continue in the state for the next five days. Rain warnings have been issued in various districts today and tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted in the districts under the warning. The IMD has warned that there is a possibility of rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm per hour, so an alert has been issued.

A yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki the day after tomorrow. The IMD has also issued a black sea alert. The National Oceanographic Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of high waves in the districts up to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur tomorrow.

Fishermen and coastal residents should be vigilant as there is a possibility of sea waves

1. As the sea waves are likely to intensify, they should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Launching small boats and yachts into the sea should be avoided during this time.
3. Landing fishing vessels into the sea is just as dangerous as launching them into the sea during periods of high waves and rough seas. Therefore, launching them into the sea and landing them on the shore should be avoided during periods of strong waves.
4. All activities, including tourism centred on beaches, should be completely avoided until the warning is lifted.
5. Fishing vessels (boats, yachts, etc.) should be safely tied up in the harbor. Maintaining a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
6. Completely avoid trips to the beach and entertainment at sea.
7. Be vigilant as there is a possibility of coastal erosion.
