TALIPARAMBA: Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan said a detailed retrospection is needed to understand the psyche behind some section of the loyal CPM supporters in Taliparamba constituency deserting the party during the elections. Pinarayi was inaugurating a political explanatory meeting organised at Taliparamba Mayyil. The former chief minister criticised TK Govindan, the former CPM district secretariat member who won in Taliparamba with UDF support.

"A section of people accepted the opportunist TK Govindan without realising that the opponents used him as a tool to destroy the communist party. Many must have regretted this by now. The reason for the defeat in Taliparamba is the anti-Left propaganda of the media and the misunderstanding created among the ranks, including those who left the party.

You (rebel leaders) should correct your mistakes and stand with the party. Has the party committed that much sin for you all to switch allegiance, all of a sudden? Govindan’s victory is just for the short term,” said Pinarayi Vijayan.

Taliparamba is a constituency that has always survived the anti-Left propaganda. In the constituency, for the first time since 1991, the LDF vote share decreased to 41 per cent this time. CPM lost 11 per cent of the votes compared to 2021.

CPM is not taking the defeat lightly. The party will accept all assessments. Pinarayi demanded that the party move forward unitedly, respecting the will of the people.
