Ayurveda Doctor and scholar; Swami Shankaramritanandapuri passes away

KARUNAGAPPALLY: Swami Shankaramritanandapuri (63), a senior monk of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, passed away on Monday evening. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS following health complications. He was a spiritual speaker, Ayurveda scholar and doctor.

Swami Shankaramritanandapuri joined the math in 1991. He held a postgraduate degree in Ayurveda. He had served as Dean of the Amrita School of Ayurveda. He was also the Medical Director of Amrita Ayurveda Hospital.

Swami Shankaramritanandapuri had deep knowledge of Sanskrit, Vedanta and Ayurveda. His lectures and interpretations based on texts such as Lalita Sahasranama, Soundarya Lahari, Abhirami Antadi and the Ramayana were widely noted.

Swami Shankaramritanandapuri combined spiritual philosophy with his knowledge of Ayurveda. He played a role in the development of the field.
He was also known for imparting knowledge of the Ayurveda tradition through teaching and service. His last rites will be held at Amritapuri at 9 pm on Tuesday.
