
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in the state tomorrow. An orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. There is a warning that strong winds and bad weather are possible along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow, with a speed of 40 to 60 kmph and at times up to 62 kmph.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the rain warning, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Thrissur, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Kannur and Pathanamthitta districts. The District Collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions including Anganwadis, Nurseries, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Professional Colleges and Tuition Centres in Thrissur district.
Professional Colleges, Schools, Anganwadis, Madrasas and Religious Education Centres and Tuition Centres will be closed tomorrow, the Kasaragod district administration announced.
In Wayanad district, the District Collector declared a holiday for Religious Education Classes, Tuition Centres, Special Classes and Coaching Classes tomorrow. The holiday does not apply to residential schools and colleges. The heads of the respective institutions should strictly ensure the safety of children in residential institutions. The District Collector announced that if necessary, such institutions can also be granted leave to ensure the safety of children.
Except for professional colleges, educational institutions in Kozhikode district will remain closed. The holiday has been declared for tomorrow due to the continuous heavy rains and waterlogging in the hilly and coastal areas. The holiday also applies to Anganwadis, Madrasas, and tuition centres. The holiday does not apply to pre-scheduled exams and online classes.
