'Any dog can sit on a golden throne'; K B Ganesh Kumar takes dig at NSS leadership

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar has launched a sharp attack on the leadership of the Nair Service Society (NSS) and its general secretary, G. Sukumaran Nair. He made the remarks at a book launch held at the Mannam Club in Thiruvananthapuram. Ganesh Kumar alleged that the NSS is currently controlled by a few “parasites” and that democracy has been lost within the organisation.

He said those occupying the chair once held by NSS founder Mannathu Padmanabhan should understand the importance of the position and act accordingly.

“Do not behave in a manner that makes it seem as though any dog can sit on a golden throne. You must remember the position you are sitting in,” Ganesh Kumar said.

The remarks were seen as an indirect attack on NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair.

Ganesh Kumar also alleged that nepotism is the biggest form of corruption in the NSS. He claimed that one person in the organisation had secured jobs for 43 members of his own family.

“The biggest corruption in the NSS is nepotism,” he said.

He also questioned why the NSS had not established a medical college or an IT park despite having the financial resources to do so.

“A medical college has not come up because there is not even anyone from this person's family who is qualified even for a cleaning job at a medical college,” he said.

Ganesh Kumar further criticised the organisation for asking young people from the community to start tea shops instead of creating decent employment opportunities for them. He claimed that some prominent Nair leaders in Thiruvananthapuram are now running tea shops.

Ganesh Kumar had previously criticised the NSS after he was removed as president of the organisation's Kottarakkara taluk union.
