Southwest monsoon active again in India; IMD predicts heavy rainfall in coming week

NEW DELHI: The southwest monsoon is reportedly active again in the country after a small hiatus. The Meteorological Department also stated that rain clouds are strengthening in central India and the country will receive the most rainfall in the coming week, even in southern states, including Kerala.

Heavy rains are likely over Kerala and Mahe from June 19 to 23, and isolated heavy rains are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region. Heavy rains are likely over coastal Karnataka from June 21 to 25, and over north-south interior Karnataka on June 22 and 23. Lakshadweep is likely to receive heavy rains on June 21. Many parts of north and central India are yet to receive rain. However, intermittent cloudy weather indicates a possibility of thundershowers in the coming days.

Rain is likely over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha from June 19 to 25. A warning has also been issued for West Madhya Pradesh with gusty winds reaching 50 to 70 kmph on June 19 and 20. Heavy rain with thundershowers is also likely here till June 23.
