'Next is Kerala': Vice President CP Radhakrishnan alludes to state's AIIMS dream

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India’s Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said Kerala’s dream for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences would soon bear fruit.

“As part of the 'Viksit Bharat' initiative, the country is witnessing a massive leap in the higher education sector. 12 years ago, Delhi was the only place in the country with an AIIMS; today, there are around a dozen AIIMS institutions across various states, and one will soon be established in Kerala as well.

Across the country, women are increasingly receiving more degrees and medals than men at convocation ceremonies; in this ceremony, too, 60 of the 92 students are women. This advancement of women is a welcome development, as their progress signifies the nation's growth. Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, digital health, advanced imaging, and precision medicine are bringing about extraordinary changes in the healthcare sector.

However, ensure the human element in healthcare is not lost, even amid technological advances. Technology can assist a doctor, but it cannot replace a doctor's human qualities. An algorithm can identify disease patterns, but only a doctor can truly listen to, understand, and reassure a patient, as well as take responsibility for their care,” The Vice President said while inaugurating the 15th convocation ceremony of the Uthradam Thirunal Academy of Medical Sciences (SUT).

At a ceremony held at the Ray Vijay Convention Centre in Balaramapuram, the Vice President distributed mementoes and certificates to around twenty students who had achieved outstanding success. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Minister Bindu Krishna, SUT Academy of Medical Sciences Chairman Dr A.C. Shanmugham, Health University Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal, Academy Principal M.K. Bhaskar, and Executive Director S. Vijayanand addressed the gathering.
