THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched its cargo service with its first consignment — a one-tonne shipment of mobile phones. The mobile phones were flown from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram on an Air India flight. Minister C.P. John flagged off the cargo service at a function held at the Domestic Airport Cargo Terminal. The initiative has been included in the state government's 100-day action programme.
Describing the service as a major step in KSRTC's history, the minister said it would help strengthen the corporation's logistics network and increase non-ticket revenue. The service has been launched with five vehicles and will be expanded in phases.
Following the launch, the mobile phones were transported to Aluva in a truck hired by KSRTC. Scorpion Cart Logistics and Cargo Cart Logistics are providing logistical support to the corporation. Ward councillor Sheeba Patrick presided over the function. KSRTC CMD Dr P.S. Pramoj Shankar, Chief Airport Officer P.K. Aju, Scorpion Logistics managing directors D. Vijayan and Abhilash Vijayan, Asset Infrastructure Head K.S. Shibukumar and Lead Cargo Head Sreedhar also attended.
