ALAPPUZHA: Special services from the Water Transport Department and KSRTC have provided a boost to the tourism sector in Alappuzha. Between April and August 2026, 12,403 tourists travelled on the Water Transport Department’s fast-boat services, generating revenue of Rs 54.07 lakh. During the same period, 7,406 passengers travelled on the 'See Kuttanad' boat service, which brought in revenue of Rs 30.46 lakh.
The Kuttanad Safari recorded 4,803 passengers and generated a revenue of Rs 42.47 lakh. Through the proactive efforts of the KSRTC Budget Tourism Cell, the Alappuzha depot achieved significant financial success. The cell successfully offers various budget-friendly packages, including Lakshadweep tours (featuring air travel), luxury cruise trips (on the *Nefertiti*), as well as excursions to destinations such as Munnar (for the *Neelakurinji* bloom — Rs 720), Ilaveezhapoonchira (Rs 520), the Adavi-Gavi-Parunthumpara circuit (Rs 1,800), and Mookambika.
Most trips from Alappuzha are directed towards places like Munnar and Gavi. New tourism packages are being introduced for destinations including Lakshadweep, Varanasi, and Malaysia. Additionally, a new pilgrimage tourism circuit—connecting sites such as the Arthunkal Basilica, Ambalappuzha Temple, and Krishnapuram Palace—will soon be launched.
