Low pressure; Warning sirens to sound in 12 districts today, special advisory issued for public

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. As part of the warning, sirens as part of the KaWaCHaM warning system will be sounded in the districts where the orange alert has been declared today (02/08/2026) between 4.00 and 4.30 pm.

The coastal low pressure continues from the south Gujarat coast to the north Kerala coast. The low pressure is located from north Karnataka to Kanyakumari, via south Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The cyclone is located in central Rajasthan. In this situation, there is a possibility of rain in Kerala till August 6.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours.

Special instructions for public

1. Those living in areas where landslides, mudslides and mountain floods are likely should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. People living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also take precautions and move as per the instructions of the authorities.
3. People living in disaster-prone areas should ensure that camps are opened in their area and should move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local body and revenue authorities.
4. Those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful as there is a possibility of strong winds. Those who foresee a dangerous situation should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.

6. Under no circumstances should one cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, fish or go for other purposes.
