THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan has alleged that the BJP is trying to destroy the CPM, Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan and his family by using central agencies. He said the party would overcome the problems it faced and move forward, adding that an action plan to address the issues would be discussed. Govindan was speaking at a memorial meeting held in honour of former CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury.

“The conspiracies being carried out by central agencies and the UDF to attack the party and its leadership need to be exposed. All this is being done with the aim of seeing the end of the party,” Govindan said.

He clarified that the CPM extended state committee meeting would not discuss the Enforcement Directorate’s actions. “The ED’s attack is not what we are going to discuss in the meeting,” he said.

Govindan claimed that attempts to trap Pinarayi had been going on for decades. “The objective was to trap Pinarayi. We have been responding to attempts to trap him for decades,” he said. He also alleged that there are now attempts to target Mohammad Riyas as well.

"The intentions became clear the next day after the raid. An attempt is being made to create evidence by threatening someone over something that happened before the marriage,” he alleged.

He said the incident was being viewed as an attack on the CPM. “There is no evidence or basis for this,” Govindan said.

He also said a case was being heard in court over the ED’s right to register a case. “It is in this situation that an attempt is being made to create a smokescreen by using the Kerala government,” he alleged.

Govindan further claimed that there was an attempt to keep the issue alive until the next election. “They are trying to drag the issue on until the next election,” he said.
