Massive fire in Thiruvananthapuram; textile shops, jewellery store and mobile shop at Nedumangad gutted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A major fire broke out in Nedumangad on Monday evening, destroying two textile shops, a jewellery store and a mobile phone shop. No casualties were reported. The total loss is estimated at around Rs 50 lakh.

The fire broke out around 7 pm when the shops were crowded. The affected establishments were Arshad's Cocktail Textiles, Roja Silks owned by Yahya, Kumar Jewellery and JVB Mobiles owned by Jithesh Krishna.
Cocktail Textiles, Kumar Jewellery and JVB Mobiles were operating in one building, while Roja Silks was located in another building.
Local residents who noticed flames spreading through the buildings rushed to the shops and helped evacuate employees and others from the premises.

A short circuit on the ground floor of the adjacent Arafa Building is suspected to have caused the fire. The flames then spread to the nearby commercial establishments. Eight fire and rescue units from different parts of the district were deployed to tackle the blaze. Firefighters worked for around one and a half hours before bringing the fire under control.
