‘CI Baiju and SI Athul Mohan tortured my children for three days’, family blames police for death of 18-year-old

THRISSUR: The family of 18-year-old boy, who committed suicide in Kodungallur, came forward levelling serious allegations against the police. The boy’s father Naushad alleged that the police are responsible for the death of his son, Mohammed Aslam. He said that his son took the extreme step after being falsely implicated in a case and subjected to police brutality.

According to the father, Aslam was in a relationship with a girl, which her family opposed. He alleged that the girl's family influenced the police to take both his sons into custody. The brothers were framed in a false case accusing them of threatening the girl and extorting gold and money from her.

Aslam was brutally assaulted inside the police station. After witnessing his younger brother being beaten, his elder brother confessed to the alleged crime. The two were named as accused in the FIR. He alleged that the police illegally detained and brutally assaulted his sons for three days.

He said circle inspector Baiju and sub inspector Athul Mohan tortured his sons in the police station for three days. He also claimed that the police produced his minor son and his elder son before the court only after three days.

Aslam was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on September 29. He was granted bail by the board on October 4. On October 6, his body was found hanging from a metal rod on the terrace of his house.

Naushad said the police have so far not visited them to record a statement in connection with his son's death. He added that his elder son, Sahal is still in judicial remand.
