
NEYYATTINKARA: A driver, who was about to get married, died tragically after a KSRTC bus lost control and crashed into his car near the Amaravila check post on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Arun Krishnan (27), the only son of Aju and R.S. Sridevi, of RS Bhavan Onamkode in Neyyattinkara, died in the incident.
The incident took place at 7.45 am on Wednesday. Shibu (48), a temporary driver at the Pappanamcode depot, who was unconscious following the accident, was admitted to the Neyyattinkara General Hospital. Five bus passengers were also injured in the accident. Ashiq, a native of Venjaramoodu, Anusha, a native of Manjavilakam, and Lijo Mini were given first aid at the Neyyattinkara General Hospital.
Arun Krishnan, a driver in a private company in Thiruvananthapuram, was about to get married to J. Rohini, a native of Maruthathoor, on August 23. The bus, travelling from Neyyattinkara to Kaliyikavila, crashed into the car coming from Parasala. The accident occurred when Arun was going to pick up a relative who is a nurse at Neyyattinkara General Hospital. Locals say that the bus was speeding. After hitting the car, the bus crashed into a nearby waiting shed. The car was completely destroyed.
Arun Krishna, who was trapped in the car, died on the spot. A major accident was averted as there were no passengers in the waiting shed in the morning.
Following information from the excise check post authorities and locals, the police and members of the Neyyattinkara Fire Force Unit who reached the spot retrieved Arun Krishna's body. Although a search was conducted nearby, no one noticed the driver who was lying unconscious in the bus. He was found after an hour. The initial conclusion is that the driver fell asleep while at the wheel. The accident caused a traffic jam on the Karamana-Kaliyikavilai National Highway for more than an hour.
