KALPETTA: It is suspected that many people are trapped in the landslide that occurred due to heavy rains in Wayanad. The accident occurred near the Meenakshi Bridge in Kalladi. Rescue operations have begun. The landslide occurred in the tunnel construction area. It is also reported that one person was rescued from the area. Minister T Siddique has directed to speed up the rescue operations. Vehicles are also feared trapped in the debris. The accident occurred near Meppadi.
CM Satheesan likely to meet the press in the wake of the Wayanad landslide tragedy.
CM Satheesan reached the Kerala State Disaster Authority Management centre in Thiruvananthapuram. NDRF officials are also part of the meeting with the CM. Member secretary Dr Sekhar Lukose Kuriakose may likely monitor operations in Wayanad.
Nine construction workers have been admitted to the hospital. More than 15 workers are feared trapped in the debris.
A home and mosque were razed by landslides. A local eatery that functioned in the area is feared to have gone under the debris.
Imperative to bring more earthmoving machines to the spot. Landslides continue amid heavy rains. People are allowed to stand in the area.
Rain returns in Wayanad, making rescue operations difficult. The existence of a labour camp in the area also adds to the concern.
Minister Siddique blamed unscientific construction methods for having invited the calamity. Kiran Kumar, Dileep, Suraj Yadav, Sanjay Thakur, Rajneesh and Tanmay Gosh were rescued. The district collector has arrived at the location.
It is reported that the soil piled in an area as part of the tunnel construction snowballed into a landslide during the heavy rains. A bus went completely under the debris. It is not known how many vehicles passed through the area at the time of the landslide. Search ongoing.

It is reported that a few workers were resting inside the bus as rain hampered the construction work. All of them are currently missing in the aftermath of landslides. NDRF hopeful of rescuing trapped workers.
Shocking visuals of the landslide surfaced on social media. Nature’s fury was largely centred around the site of tunnel construction. Concern looms over a bus found near a river in the area. A large number of workers were involved in the tunnel construction in the area.
Minister T Siddique met CM Satheesan for discussions in the wake of landslides. Agriculture and revenue ministers were directed to immediately reach Wayanad.
The bridge is currently in a critical state following the landslides. The authorities have evacuated people from neighbourhoods. A traffic snarl was witnessed in the Meppadi-Chooralmala area.
It is believed that the landslide has not extended to human habitats. Wayanad received rainfall of 226 mm in 24 hours, which added to the troubles.
Two people were rushed to the hospital, while the NDRF team is also in place.
