KOZHIKODE: A 43-year-old man diagnosed with Nipah was shifted to the isolation ward of Kozhikode Medical College Hospital last night. The superintendent of the medical college hospital informed that strict restrictions have been imposed near the ward.

No unnecessary entry or movement is allowed in the area where the isolation ward is functioning. Entry to Savithri Devi Sabu Block has also been completely prohibited. No vehicles will be allowed to park in the vicinity of this block.

Barricades have been installed in the ward area. The superintendent clarified that the hospital’s main gate should be used by the patients being discharged. Strict restrictions and arrangements have been made in the pay ward area and surrounding areas. The superintendent informed that these arrangements have been made for the safety of the patients and to prevent the spread of the disease, and requested everyone's cooperation and support.

A native of Feroke is in the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Since he had other health issues, he was first admitted to a private hospital and then to the medical college. Nipah was confirmed during the examination conducted at the medical college. His samples have been sent to the Pune Virology Lab.

The patient diagnosed with Nipah is a cleaning worker. He had gone to clean the old building in Feroke. The presence of bats in that godown is suspected, and the disease may have originated from there.
