THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has reinstated Bineesh Kodiyeri’s party membership after three years. The decision came after Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan reportedly instructed CPM state secretary M V Govindan to grant him membership. Earlier, a controversy had erupted after Bineesh’s application for membership renewal was rejected despite him applying four times.

Bineesh Kodiyeri’s party membership was revoked following his arrest in 2020 in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged drug trafficking. After being acquitted in the case in 2023, he submitted four applications seeking to regain party membership. However, both the district and state leadership of the party had rejected his requests until now.
