THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain across Kerala for the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued in five districts on Wednesday due to the possibility of heavy rainfall.
Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod are under a yellow alert. The IMD has warned of isolated heavy rainfall in these districts, with between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm of rain likely within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a red alert for all coastal districts in Kerala due to the possibility of the Kallakkadal phenomenon, or swell surge.
The warning remains in effect until 5.30 pm on Thursday. High waves ranging from 1.1 metres to 1.8 metres, along with the possibility of Kallakkadal, have been forecast along the Kerala coast. Authorities have urged people in coastal and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, as seawater may enter residential areas and coastal erosion is possible.
