Resul Pookutty resigns as chairman of Chalachitra Academy; Jagadish, Salim Kumar under consideration for post

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Resul Pookutty resigned as chairman of the State Film Academy. The resignation comes in the backdrop of a change in government. The UDF government had not instructed Resul to continue in the post. The resignation letter was later handed over to the Chief Secretary.

The Pinarayi Vijayan government appointed Oscar-winning Resul Pookutty as the chairman of the State Film Academy in October last year. Resul Pookutty's appointment came after chairman Prem Kumar was removed from the post. The incident even led to Prem Kumar expressing deep dissatisfaction.

Meanwhile, with the resignation of Resul Pookutty, the government needs to appoint a new chairman to the academy. The names of Congress sympathisers Jagadish, Salim Kumar, Deepu Karunakaran and others are being considered. However, Jagadish has informed that he is currently not available for any position and is busy with cinema projects. Jagadish has informed the cultural department about this. Deepu Karunakaran is the Professional Congress Thiruvananthapuram district president, director and producer.

Following the change of government in the state, Actor Madhupal, who was serving as the chairman of the State Cultural Activities Welfare Fund Board, also resigned. However, K Madhu, who is the chairman of the State Film Development Corporation, has not resigned. K Madhu, who harbours good relations with the UDF, has not yet clarified whether he will vacate the post or continue.
