THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A gas leak was reported in Thiruvananthapuram after an underground pipeline was damaged during road construction work at Kumarapuram Poonthi Road on Tuesday. As a precaution, people in the area were evacuated. Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and began efforts to contain the leak.

According to preliminary information, an earthmover accidentally struck the underground pipeline while excavation work was underway. Officials shut the valves supplying gas to the affected section and began repair work on the damaged pipeline.

The gas leak has since been brought under control, officials said. Gas supply through the affected pipeline has been temporarily suspended as a precaution to prevent any further risk. Authorities said the situation is under control and repair work on the pipeline is progressing.
