Sabarimala gold frames case; Bail granted to former devaswom board president P S Prasanth

THIRUVANANTHPARAM: Former Travancore Devaswom Board president P S Prasanth has been granted bail in the Sabarimala gold theft case. The Kollam Vigilance Court granted him bail considering his health issues. Prasanth was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on July 23. A. Ajikumar, former board member, who was arrested along with Prasanth, had earlier been granted bail on health issues.

Prasanth, who had been remanded at the Poojappura District Jail, was admitted to the MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL a week ago. He was shifted to the geriatric ward and treated after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Prasanth is 17th accused in the case involving the theft of gold frames.

The SIT's findings is that the board headed by Prasanth in 2025 had sent the panels to Chennai-based Smart Creations to have them gold-plated, as part of an attempt to cover up the 2019 gold theft. The panels were handed over for gold plating without obtaining permission from the high court. The SIT arrested Prasanth after charging him with offences including conspiracy in the case.
