KALPETTA: Wayanad District Collector D.R. Meghashree has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district tomorrow, in view of the continuing heavy rain and the orange alert issued by the Central Meteorological Department for the day.
The holiday will apply to all educational institutions in the district, including anganwadis, religious education centres such as madrassas, tuition centres, special classes and professional colleges.
However, the holiday will not apply to residential schools and residential colleges, the District Collector said.
The weather department has warned that rainfall is likely to intensify in more areas of the state, including the hilly regions, during the coming hours and through the night. People living in hilly areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution.
Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in the state today and tomorrow, while winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected around August 2.
An orange alert was in effect in 11 districts today owing to heavy rainfall. The holiday declaration in Wayanad for tomorrow comes against this backdrop.
