KANNUR: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) attacked the vehicle of Minister O J Janeesh. The vehicle sustained damages in the incident, which happened at Karippa in Taliparamba, Kannur. The minister had arrived in Kannur to attend two programmes.
After attending a programme at the Kannur Government Guest House, Minister Janeesh travelled to Taliparamba to participate in a programme related to the Archaeology Department before proceeding to Kasaragod. It was during this journey the DYFI workers stopped the minister’s car. More than ten activists jumped towards the vehicle. Those inside the car said the activists hit the car with stones and their hands. The flag stand placed in front of the car broke and the rain guard was also damaged. Police arrived there and removed the activists from the area. The minister then continued his journey to Kasaragod in the same car.
The DYFI alleged that Minister O J Janeesh and Shafi Parambil MP were responsible for the clashes that broke out in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. A minor clash at the beginning of the Youth Congress-led AG's office march, which started from near the Palayam University Hostel demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, later escalated into intense conflict. The confrontation later developed into clashes between Youth Congress and SFI activists. The situation worsened further after police entered the University Men’s Hostel and carried out a lathi charge. Several students were injured in the police action.
