THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister Antony Raju said that the Suraksha-Mitr project, a vehicle monitoring system launched by the state motor vehicle department, has become operational in the state. Suraksha-Mitra is a project to send an emergency message to the owners' mobile phones in case of any untoward incidents while traveling in the vehicle.

Customers will receive warning messages from the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) attached to the vehicle as SMS messages. If the vehicle gets involved in an accident or the driver drives too fast, the owner will immediately receive alerts via SMS and e-mail to his mobile number. Owners can verify the authenticity of the message and ensure the safe travel of the vehicle. Alert messages will be sent to the mobile number and e-mail ID provided at the time of mounting the device. Changes in the number and e-mail id should be reported to surakshamitr@cdac.in and corrected.
