THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A police trainee arrested for misappropriating Rs 7 lakh collected from police recruit trainees for purchasing uniforms has been terminated from service. The trainee used this amount for investing in online betting game. Action was taken against Shambu R Krishnan of Saranya Bhavan in Kollam’s Chemmakad. He was a trainee of Pathanamthitta KAP-3 Battalion. The Peroorkada police arrested him Tuesday early morning.

The police said than an investigation conducted found that he had invested the amount in online betting game expecting double profit. He is a member of the uniform committee consisting of seven people. It was Shambu who collected money from police recruit trainees of the SAP, KAP 3, and KAP 5 battalions for purchasing and stitching uniform cloth. However, the alleged fraud came to light when the trainees questioned the matter after the amount collected was not deposited in the institutions.

A police investigation found that he had conducted a similar fraud when he was in the IRB and joined KAP after resigning from there. The police are conducting a detailed investigation.
