IDUKKI: A woman was trampled to death by an elephant at Suryanelli in Idukki. The dead is Mariammal (36), daughter of Vellaswamy of Suryanelli. The wild elephant attacked Mariammal when she was walking her son to school. Her son also sustained serious injuries.

The two were walking onto the main road when they came before a herd of wild elephants. Since it was foggy, Mariammal could not see the herd approaching. Her injured son is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Wild elephant attacks have been increasing in Chinnakanal for the past few days. The locals had complained to the authorities several times, but to no avail. Arikomban was also caught from this area.
