CHENNAI: Actor Vijay made a slew of public announcements after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay said that up to 200 units of free electricity will be provided per month, and a special squad will be formed for women's safety. Vijay also announced a new plan to bring down drug use among youngsters in the state.

After taking the oath, Vijay began his speech by addressing the people as 'En Nenjil Kudiyirukkum' (those who reside in my heart). Vijay said that there will be no parallel centres of power in his government, and the final decision will be his. Vijay requested the people to give him a reasonable time to fulfil his promises and implement administrative reforms. Talking about the state's financial situation, Vijay announced that he would release a report on the state's financial situation for the period from 2021 to 2026. The DMK government went into power with a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore. Vijay clarified that he is taking over the government at a time when the treasury has been wiped clean.

"I have faced many difficulties to succeed in cinema, so I know the price of hunger very well. I did not come from a royal family. I am one among you. I will not give false promises to the people. I do not want even a penny from the people. All of you should give up the thought of corruption. I am not an angel; I am an ordinary person. I will only do things I am capable of.” Vijay said.
