KOZHIKODE: Koyilandy police arrested a man on Saturday evening for allegedly murdering his 58-year-old wife. In a striking display of indifference, the accused was apprehended while waiting in line to purchase alcohol at a BEVCO retail outlet just hours after committing the crime. The victim has been identified as Sudha, a resident of the 4-Cent Colony near Poyilkavu Beach.
According to law enforcement sources, the murder occurred on Saturday morning. Sudha and her husband, Kuttikrishnan, had been temporarily living in a makeshift shed adjacent to their house, which is currently under construction. Investigators say that Kuttikrishnan attacked Sudha with a machete inside the shed.
The crime came to light when local MGNREGA workers arrived at the house to call Sudha for daily wage work. When she failed to respond, the workers searched the premises and discovered her body lying in a pool of blood inside the shed. The suspected murder weapon—a heavy machete—was found discarded near the victim.
Following the discovery, the workers immediately alerted neighbours and the local ward member, who then notified the police. A team of officers arrived at the scene to secure the area and conduct the necessary investigation procedures.
The body has since been transported to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police confirmed that Kuttikrishnan is currently in custody, and interrogations are underway to determine the exact motive behind the homicide.
