
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has come up with a Rs 2,000 crore logistics project to boost the maritime and industrial growth of Vizhinjam. Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited has signed agreements with Central Public Sector Undertakings IOCL, CONCOR and CWC in this regard.
The function was held in the Chief Minister's Chamber in the Assembly in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is also the Chairman of VISL. Minister V.N. Vasavan, Department Secretary Dr. A. Kowsigan, and VISL MD Dr. Divya S. Iyer were also present. Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited is implementing the infrastructure development project worth Rs 2000 crore in collaboration with three central public sector enterprises.
IOCL for fuel security
Central company IOCL will set up a large bunkering system to refuel ships arriving in Vizhinjam. With this, Vizhinjam will become a major fuel hub in the Indian Ocean. Cost: 700 crores.
Under the Ministry of Railways, CONCOR will develop container depots and cargo-handling systems to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods across the country. Cost: 600 crores.
The Central Warehousing Corporation will invest Rs 700 crore for a state-of-the-art multi-modal logistics park and godowns. Cold storages and export-related units will be set up in the park, which will be built without any financial burden on the government. Cost: Rs 700 crores.
