Lightning strike kills one, injures four in Koodaranji, Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: Heavy rain and lightning wreaked havoc in the Kozhikode district. One person died after being struck by lightning in Koodaranji. Jason, a native of Ilampulli, Koodaranji, Koombara Mundumala, died in the incident. Heavy rain and lightning occurred in the eastern hilly region of Kozhikode in the evening. Four people were also struck by lightning in Thamarassery. They were inside their house in Puthupaddi at the time of the lightning. The injured were admitted to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department informed that light/moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds with speed reaching up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts in the next three hours. Light rain is also likely at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram district, the notification says.

From tomorrow to the 21st, there is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and at times 60 kmph along the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kanyakumari area, south Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, and Andaman Sea area. It has also been warned that fishing is not allowed in these areas on the above dates.
