
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted cinematographer Saji Nair (58) died tragically after falling from the sixth floor of the Bee Canti Homes apartment in Jawahar Nagar. The incident took place at 10:30 am on Monday. The funeral was held at Shantikavadam in the city. According to Museum police, Saji Nair was about to leave for Kochi with his younger brother Jinukumar when he jumped from the building. Though the younger brother tried to save, Saji fell from the height and made a fatal landing. He was then rushed to the Medical College Hospital by the police, but his life could not be saved. Saji had been undergoing treatment for mental stress for some time.
Saji Nair, who excelled in the advertising industry in Mumbai and Dubai, is known to Malayalees as the cinematographer of director Shaji N. Karun's award-winning film Sopanam. He has worked on many excellent works, including Manhole, directed by Vidhu Vincent, which won the State Award for Best Film; Arayakadavil, directed by Gopikuttikol; Beeran, Ore Udal (short film), directed by Asha Achi Joseph, and Anyar (a documentary that received Panorama selection).
“I heard the news in shock. His life should not have ended this way. May Saji's mother and younger brothers have the strength to bear this loss.” responded Vidhu Vincent.
