THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department will implement a state-wide virtual loop system that will connect surveillance cameras on major roads in the state to computers to detect speeding vehicles. The trial in connection with this has begun. Fines have not been levied yet.

One cannot escape the system by slowing down in front of the cameras. The speed at which the vehicle travels between two surveillance cameras is analyzed by a computer system to detect speeding. The central government's scheme is being implemented in Kerala for the first time.

Kerala has the highest number of vehicle surveillance cameras.

People riding bikes without a helmet will also get caught. The information will go to the transport site of the central transport department in real-time. Based on the vehicle registration number, the owner will be tracked and the penalty will be sent to the mobile phone via SMS. At the same time, this will appear in the virtual court in Kochi.

If caught on the same camera for the second time without a helmet, the camera will analyze itself and find that the offence has been repeated, and the fine will be increased to Rs.1000. This will be handed over to the server and the court in real-time. If the same offence is repeated a third time, the license will be suspended. All traffic offences will be photographed in this manner and will be punished immediately. Control rooms have been set up in all the districts.
