ALAPPUZHA: Former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's gunmen and security personnel were granted anticipatory bail in the case of roughing up Youth Congress workers during the Nava Kerala Yatra. The Alappuzha District Sessions Court granted anticipatory bail to five accused in the case - Anil Kalliyoor, Sandeep S, Vipin, Arun and Shyju.

The incident in question took place in December 2023. During the Nava Kerala Yatra conducted by Pinarayi Vijayan during his time as Chief Minister, the gunmen and security personnel roughed up the Youth Congress workers who waved black flags at the Chief Minister in Alappuzha. The gunmen unleashed brutality on the protesters after getting out of the Chief Minister's escort vehicle.

Pinarayi Vijayan, while responding to the issue earlier, said the gunmen were only trying to ensure the Chief Minister's safety and termed it as a 'rescue operation'. Youth Congress leaders approached the court after police failed to register a case in the incident. Subsequently, the police registered a case against the gunmen on the court's orders.
