Sex education for teenagers: Project X launched

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Project X, the project implemented in the schools of the district by the district administration, General Education Department and an NGO named Kanal with the aim of providing comprehensive sex education to teenagers has started. S Shanavas, Director of General Education, inaugurated the project at Vazhuthacaud Cottonhill Government Girls Higher Secondary School. He said that such projects are the need of the hour.

The scheme will be implemented in 50 schools of the district. A total of 5,000 students, 100 from each school, will be given sex education. Anatomy, Contraceptives, Venereal Diseases, Sexual Rights and Responsibilities, POCSO Law, etc. are included in the study. Half of the project amount will be met by the district administration and the rest from the CSR fund of the company called Guide House.

A handbook explaining the scheme was released on the function. District Collector Geromic George was the chairman. Playback singer G Venugopal was the special guest. Councilor Rakhi Ravikumar, Assistant Collector Akhil V Menon, DEO RS Sureshbabu, AEO R Gopakumar, Guide House Associate Director Prince Abraham and others were present.
