THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the onset of the rainy season in the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the people to come together to prevent the spread of contagious diseases.

"Extreme caution should be taken against dengue fever and rat fever. Immediate action should be taken to destroy the sources of mosquitoes. It must be ensured that cleaning is carried out effectively," the CM said.

"Dry days should be observed in the state on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The dry day should be observed in schools on Friday, offices on Saturday and homes on Sunday. Everyone must ensure that water is not remaining stagnated inside or outside the house. Do not allow water to stagnate in plant pots, refrigerator trays, etc. Special attention should be paid to the plantation area, construction sites, scrap shops and buildings accommodating migrant workers. Those who come into contact with soil, sludge and sewage should take doxycycline, an anti-rat fever pill, as directed by health workers. Doxycycline is available free from all government hospitals. Everyone must come together to prevent the spread of contagious diseases from becoming a menace," he said.
