NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is all set to conduct a detailed examination to see if there is an alternative method of execution other than death by hanging. The Supreme Court has asked the central government to clarify its stand on the issue. The court started fresh discussions by considering the plea which pointed out that death by hanging is inhumane and painful.
Chief Justice D V Chandrachud has also proposed a committee to study the alternatives to hanging. The petition is being considered again on May 2. The central government will inform the Supreme Court about its stance on the matter on that day.
