'Uniform Civil Code in 21 states before 2029', says Union Home Minister Amit Shah

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in the 21 NDA-ruled states before 2029. The UCC aims to introduce uniform personal laws applicable to everyone—regardless of religion—involving matters such as marriage, divorce, property rights, and adoption. Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Shah expressed confidence that the UCC could be implemented in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA alliance before the 2029 deadline.

The Union Home Minister also highlighted the Central Government's uncompromising stance against terrorism. Shah pointed to the achievements made in security policy through measures such as surgical strikes, airstrikes, and 'Operation Sindoor'. He noted that under the NDA government, India has shifted away from the corruption, casteism, and dynastic politics that prevailed prior to 2014, moving instead towards a politics based on performance.

Amit Shah also spoke about India's economic growth. He stated that India has emerged as one of the top five economies in the world. He pointed out that the GDP growth rate for the first quarter stood at 7.8 per cent and that India is leading among major economies.
