Couple from Assam arrested for selling bottled brown sugar in rented house

PATHANAMTHITTA: Three people including a couple were arrested for possession of brown sugar and marijuana. They were arrested during a joint operation by the district police special team and the local police in Enath, Adoor. The couple, Fakaruddin (26) and Faridakhathoon (23) hailing from Assam were found in possession of 3.62 grams of brown sugar contained in 14 small bottles presumably intended for sale at their rented house in Adoor Vadakkadathukavu.

Vishnu from Shivavilasam, Kunnathur, Kollam was also arrested in Enath with 40 grams of marijuana. He has a history of involvement in the illegal marijuana trade across various locations in the district. Authorities are currently investigating whether he had any accomplices. The operation was carried out by a special team led by Narcotic Cell DYSP K A Vidyadharan in the raids at Adoor and Enath.

Yesterday, excise seized 7.47 grams of MDMA and 30 grams of marijuana from two locations in Karunagapally, Kollam resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The arrested people include Abhijith (26) and his brother Abhiraj (23) from Ajith Bhavan, Karunagapally Ayanivelikulangara Maruthurkulangara South Room, Pranav (19) from Kochandisseri Vakkathil House, Karunagapally Marathurkulangara South, Jithin (35) from Kannampally House, Karunagappally Thazhava Katathur Room, Karunagappally Thodiyur Puliyur Vanchi South, Bin Talif (25), Faisal (21) from Kattayyath East in Thodiyur Puliyur Vanchi North Room and Nawaz (21) from Kandathil Tharayil in the South Room in Thazhavakkadathoor Muriyil.

Acting on a tip received during a search conducted as part of the 'Not to Drugs' campaign, a special operation taking place from October 2 to 15, authorities searched Abhijith's residence, where they discovered 3.26 grams of MDMA and 10 grams of marijuana in his bedroom. Subsequently, Abhijith and Abhiraj were arrested and Pranav was detained during the interrogation. A case was registered under the NDPS Act against them.

During an inspection in the Thazhava area, law enforcement conducted a search at Thathupuraikkal Junction based on information suggesting the smuggling of MDMA in a car. A four-member group, including Nawaz stopped the car and found 4.21 grams of MDMA and 20 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. All seven individuals have been remanded in custody. The operation was led by Karunagappally Excise Range Inspector R Prasanth.
