KOCHI: More details of the blast at the Jehovah's Witnesses convention in Kalamassery are out. The police are conducting a search at the house of Dominic Martin, a native of Thammanam. The inspection was carried out in the rented house where he lives with his family in Thammanam. Martin's wife Mini told the police that he left home at 5 am. Mini also testified that Martin did not say where he was going. Police are investigating about the woman who died in the blast.
Police said that Martin learned how to make bombs in six months. He learned how to make a bomb through the internet and planted the bomb along with a bottle filled with petrol at the prayer hall.
Police have confirmed that the blast was carried out by Dominic Martin. Police found that the bomb was triggered remotely. Footage of the remote triggering of the bomb was obtained from Martin's mobile phone. The accused told the police about the shops where he bought the explosives from. Martin also told the police that he learned how to make a bomb through the Internet.
Earlier, Martin had surrendered at the Thrissur Kodakara police station, claiming that he was the one who planted the bomb. He had also said this through a Facebook video. 'I have been a believer in the same church for sixteen years. Years ago it was realized that Jehovah's Witnesses were spreading seditious ideas. I asked for correction several times but it never happened. People like me will react against this,' says Martin in the video released just before surrendering.
A woman was killed and more than 35 people were injured in the blast that took place at 9:30 a.m. It is reported that the condition of seven people is critical. It is also reported that the child with 80 percent burns is on a ventilator. The blast took place at the Zamra International Convention Center near the Medical College in Kalamassery. Today was the last day of the conference which has been going on since 27th of this month. It is reported that more than 2,000 people participated in the convention. The injured were shifted to different hospitals.
