NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting a raid at places related to former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik in the Kiru hydropower project corruption case. Reports said the raids are being conducted at 30 places including his house.

The CBI raid started Thursday morning. More than 100 CBI officials are participating in the raid. The case alleged corruption in awarding a contract worth Rs 2,200 crore in the hydropower project.

The CBI registered a case against five persons, including Malik in April 2022 in connection with irregularities in awarding contracts. Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 23, 2018 to October 30, 2019. The case alleged that he accepted a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear the files related to the project.

Meantime, Malik is undergoing treatment in the hospital for the past few days. He accused the dictatorial forces of raiding his house despite his illness.

Malik was earlier close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, when he came forward blaming the union home ministry in the Pulwama attack, there was a rift in the relationship. Malik disclosed that the death of 40 CRPF jawans was a security breach and when this was brought to Modi's attention, he directed not to reveal it.
