THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The man with a lifelong craze for photography and an inimitable storytelling style was what friends described best about veteran Sangeeth Sivan. Film director Sangeeth passed away on Wednesday evening at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital following a heart attack.

Just days back, Sivan was in high elan over completing the dubbing of his latest Hindi movie ‘Kap Kapi’, the Hindi remake of the hit Malayalam movie ‘Romancham’. Shockingly, after reaching home from the dubbing studio, Sangeeth experienced shortness of breath and was rushed to the hospital. Renal dysfunction also occurred during treatment. He was on a ventilator when he suffered a heart attack on Wednesday evening.

Sangeeth just three years back endured a critical phase after getting infected by covid pandemic. His situation then turned worse, which even forced some television channels to misinform his death news. However, Sangeeth survived the scare and displayed valour to return to life and he would occasionally boast about this to his friends. His friends are still in disbelief that a man who bravely fought the pandemic easily stumbled in front of a heart attack.

Born in 1959 in Pongumoodu, Sangeeth did commercials and documentaries with his father Sivan before entering cinema. He later set up an advertising company with his brother Santosh Sivan. However, it was only after passing from the Film Appreciation Course at Pune Film Institute that the craze for filmmaking enveloped him.

Though born in Thiruvananthapuram, Sangeeth had a close bond with Haripad, his father’s native place. On reaching the place, it was customary for him to Subrahmanya Swamy Temple and Mannarsala Nagaraja Temple.

Sangeeth Sivan’s body was brought to Meridian Apartments (Flat No. 2, Building No. 2) at Veera Desai Road, Andheri West, Mumbai. The cremation will take place on Thursday at 4 pm at Oshiwara Hindu Crematorium, Mumbai.

He is the elder son of late cinematographer and director Sivan and producer late Chandramani. Wife; Jayasree, Children: Sajna Sivan (Professional Still Photographer) and Shantanu Sivan (Assistant Director). Son-in-law: Deepak. Director and cinematographer Santhosh Sivan, director Sanjeev Sivan and Sarita Rajeev are siblings.
