THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The legislative subject committee has approved the proposals to allow liquor outlets in IT parks. Further action will be taken after the election code of conduct. The opposition MLAs dissented government's move.
The previous government took the decision to allow the sale of liquor in IT parks. Industrial parks were also later included in the license limits. The license for clubs will be given here. It is reported that the fee will be 20 lakhs. The working hours will be from 11 am to 11 pm. The management rights will be given by the IT Park directly or to a company named by the promoter. The committee passed the approval over the opposition's objections that the parks would have to be licensed separately in future.
Beer, wine and foreign liquor may be served. The distance limit prescribed for foreign liquor retail shops and bars is not applicable to them. Earlier there were plans to have a liquor outlet for a park, but the notification will also come in such a way that the license will be granted to the industrial establishment that demands it. The disagreement of the opposition is that if the license is given directly to the institutions, there will be no control. The opposition accused IT professionals for their rising liquor consumption leading to cultural destruction.
