KOTTAYAM: A major fire broke out at S H Mount in Kottayam on Sunday evening. The accident happened at JN Industries, which operates a tissue paper manufacturing unit. The fire force has reached the spot, and efforts are underway to douse the fire.

Meanwhile, there are reports that suggest that the fire also spread to a house located adjacent to the factory. However, no one was at the building at the time of the incident, which averted a major tragedy.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening. There are six buildings in the JN Industries Complex. Three of them were gutted by the fire. As the front doors and shutters of the buildings were locked, it was a challenge to enter the building and put out the fire. The fire brigade entered by breaking the grills and concrete parts. The initial conclusion is that a short circuit in the building was the cause of the fire.

The accident was compounded by the fact that tissue paper catches fire easily. Since it was not a working day, no employees were at the building. This also averted a major disaster.
