NEW DELHI: Kerala finally has a senior standing counsel for the first time in the Supreme Court. The state cabinet meeting appointed prominent lawyer MR Ramesh Babu as the senior standing counsel.
Ramesh Babu is expected to coordinate important cases related to the government. Moreover, Ramesh Babu will also appear in the Supreme Court in inter-state river dispute cases. Ramesh Babu is currently the consul of the Reserve Bank of India. Before this, he served as the standing counsel of the Kerala government in the Supreme Court during the periods 2001-2006 and 2011-2016.
The cabinet meeting also decided to appoint four standing consuls to appear in cases on behalf of the state government. Advocates PS Zulfikar Ali, Aljo K Joseph, Marzook Thangal and James P Thomas have been appointed as standing consuls.
