KOCHI: A new organization is being formed in the Malayalam film industry under the leadership of director Ashiq Abu. The name of the organization is Progressive Film Makers Association. The organization will be led by Ashiq Abu, Anjali Menon, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Rima Kallingal and Rajeev Ravi. However, it was originally thought of as a left-leaning producers' organization. It was later converted into a workers' organization as an alternative to FEFKA.

A letter titled ‘Vision for a Progressive Malayalam Film Producers Association' in English was sent by the organizers of the new movement to some of the producers. Some were contacted directly. In the second paragraph of the letter, it was stated that the goal was a new association of producers. It also mentioned that left progressive values would be upheld.

However, in the letter in Malayalam detailing the new organization, the word producers were changed to crew behind. The section that says 'Left Progressive Values' has been changed to the values of 'Equality, Cooperation and Social Justice'. Ashiq and his team are expecting the dissatisfied members of the producers' union and those opposing FEFKA leadership.

Meanwhile, producer Sandra Thomas responded that she had received an invitation to the association. Sandra said that she intends to fight within the producers association and informed that she will not join the new organization at the moment.
